Hi I'm Zita Makkos

Zita is an internationally recognized portrait photographer based in Sutter Creek, California, serving Calaveras, Amador, San Joaquin, and Sacramento counties. As a Portrait Master (Now Icon Awarded) Associate Photographer, she specializes in magazine-style portraits—including beauty, families, boudoir, headshots, and pets.

With a career starting in Hungary, Australia, and since 2015 in Northern California, Zita was honored as Best of Calaveras Professional Photographer & Studio in 2020.

Now, from her spacious and welcoming studio on 71 Main Street in Sutter Creek, she creates timeless heirloom pet portraits that celebrate the deep bond between you and your pet.

She has been passionate about pet portraits and decided to create pawPUP mobile photography studio where she travels to events to add a fun addition to any pet related gatherings, festivals, markets. This is how pawPUP studio was created.

On the side, Zita dedicates her time and talent to volunteering at her local animal shelter, bringing out the best of the rescue pets to help increase their chances of finding a loving home.

She believes every pet deserves to be seen, cherished, and remembered—whether they’re waiting for their forever family or have already found their place in your heart.

Because pets are more than just animals—they're family.

Let’s create a portrait together that preserves their spirit forever.

As your mobile pet photographer, my goal is to create quick but meaningful beautiful art for your home without the hustle of scheduling and traveling to my studio.

I know many pet owners worry about how their pets will behave during a session. And since pet photography is still a new experience for many, it’s natural to have questions about how it all works.

To help, I’ve put together answers to the most common questions about photographing d

FAQs

I’ve never had a pet photography session before, and I’m a little nervous. What can I expect?

First and foremost, take a deep breath and relax—your pet will pick up on your energy, so the more at ease you are, the more comfortable they’ll be too. My approach is calm, patient, and fun, ensuring both you and your furry friend enjoy the experience. With over 10 years of professional photography experience, I bring a gentle presence, plenty of love for animals, and expertise in styling, posing, and lighting. My goal is to create a stress-free session that captures the unique personality and bond you share with your pet. Just show up, enjoy the moment, and let me take care of the rest!

Can humans be in any of the pawPUP event photos?

During this pawPUP events, the main focus is on your pets. If you think you are well dressed and would love to display the photo of the two of you in your home, or came from far away, then we for sure will help you get in the picture for one or two snaps. However if you are thinking of having a more bond focused photosession, we recommend to book a full hour session in our studio, where you can both look at your best in a more calm, relaxing environment. Once you have your pawPUP session in any of our events, your studio session will be on us. However because our time is precious just like yours, as we run a busy full time portrait studio when not on events, we require a $99 booking fee on the day of the pawPUP event. This fee is to hold your date and will be credited towards any further purchase.

How long will our session last?

Your session shouldn't last more than 15-20 mins. I always adapt to your pet’s needs though. If your pet needs extra time to settle in, or not used to the flash, we can try it multiple times throughout the event. On the other hand, some pets are naturally relaxed, and I may capture beautiful images even faster. No matter what, I won’t rush the process—

My dog doesn’t know how to sit and has a ton of energy, is that a problem?

Not a problem at all! While it’s great if your dog knows a few commands, it’s not necessary. I’ve worked with all types of personalities and energy levels, and I always capture amazing images. Honestly, I want your dog to be exactly who they are! You're here to capture the true spirit and personality of your pet—not just perfect poses. So relax, let your dog’s unique energy shine, and we’ll create portraits that truly reflect their one-of-a-kind character!

Do my dog have to stay on leash?

Due to the outdoor nature and other dogs lining up on an event, yes, your dog needs to stay on leash. During post-processing, I can easily remove the leash from any images you choose to purchase. Please note that the leash will remain visible in the images you view during the selection process, but it will be edited out of the final portraits you decide to keep. This way, you’ll have a beautiful, natural-looking image while ensuring your pet feels safe and secure throughout the session.

Why should I have my pet professionally photographed?

Professional pet photography is more than just snapping a few pictures—it’s about capturing the true essence of your pet and the special bond you share. Pets are an integral part of the family for so many people, and for many of us, they’re like children. In the U.S., as of 2024, over 85 million families own pets, which is approximately 66% of U.S. households. It shows just how much our furry friends mean to us.

When you choose professional pet photography, you’re investing in high-quality, archival prints that will preserve those memories for generations to come. I focus on capturing your pet's unique personality and the connection between you both. Each photo undergoes a meticulous editing process to remove distractions like leashes, unwanted objects, or even eye boogers and tear stains, leaving you with a flawless, timeless portrait. This attention to detail ensures that your final image is more than just a photograph—it’s a cherished memory that will last a lifetime.

How much does the sitting fee cost?

During our early launching phase the session is Free. This might change in the future, so it's better to take advantage of this offer.

How much is the actual product?

In our pawPUP events, we have limited options for wall arts. We would like to specialize in creating timeless signature wall arts for your home. At the moment as introductory we will be offering acrylic, metal and framed prints with limited sizes starting from $500.

Do you offer payment plan?

We understand that the pricing is not for everyone. However we do offer 50% downpayment on the day of ordering, and paying it off the following month. (We are somewhat flexible, please do ask) However we offer AfterPay options as well just ask at our booth. Please note that absolutely no product until it is paid in full.

Will I receive the digital file too?

You will receive a small version of the file, with the logo on it which you can share on your social media. See the sample attached.

But I love colors, do I have to have the image in B&W?

Just because our branding shows only B&W pet portrait, due to the RAW file the images are downloaded in color and converted back to B&W. If you prefer ordering your image in color, that is not a problem. You will have an option to indicate that on your viewing.
